  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Sautéed mushrooms in garlic butter are a delicious and quick side dish that enhances any meal. With a rich buttery flavor and a touch of garlic, they pair perfectly with grilled meats, pasta, or can be enjoyed on toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or a mix), cleaned and sliced
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel to wipe off any dirt. Avoid rinsing them under water to prevent sogginess. If necessary, rinse quickly and dry thoroughly.
  2. Slice the mushrooms into even pieces, about 1/4-inch thick for even cooking.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. For a richer flavor, add olive oil as the butter melts.
  4. Once melted and bubbly, add the minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.
  5. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet, spreading them out in an even layer. Let them sit for 1-2 minutes without stirring to develop a golden-brown color.
  6. Stir gently and continue to sauté for 5-7 minutes until tender and caramelized.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, starting with about 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Adjust as needed.
  8. If using, add lemon juice for brightness.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in chopped fresh parsley. If using dried parsley, add it earlier in the cooking process.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. For added depth, consider a pinch of garlic powder or a dash of soy sauce.
  11. Serve warm as a side dish or topping for grilled meats, pasta, or on toast. They also work well in omelets or frittatas.
  12. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat, adding extra butter if needed.

Notes

  • Experiment with different mushroom varieties for varied flavors and textures.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper sautéing.
  • Adjust garlic levels to your preference; roasted garlic can be used for a milder flavor.
  • For an indulgent touch, sprinkle grated Parmesan or crumbled feta cheese before serving.
