Description
Sautéed mushrooms in garlic butter are a delicious and quick side dish that enhances any meal. With a rich buttery flavor and a touch of garlic, they pair perfectly with grilled meats, pasta, or can be enjoyed on toast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or a mix), cleaned and sliced
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for added flavor)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
Instructions
- Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel to wipe off any dirt. Avoid rinsing them under water to prevent sogginess. If necessary, rinse quickly and dry thoroughly.
- Slice the mushrooms into even pieces, about 1/4-inch thick for even cooking.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. For a richer flavor, add olive oil as the butter melts.
- Once melted and bubbly, add the minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet, spreading them out in an even layer. Let them sit for 1-2 minutes without stirring to develop a golden-brown color.
- Stir gently and continue to sauté for 5-7 minutes until tender and caramelized.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste, starting with about 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Adjust as needed.
- If using, add lemon juice for brightness.
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped fresh parsley. If using dried parsley, add it earlier in the cooking process.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. For added depth, consider a pinch of garlic powder or a dash of soy sauce.
- Serve warm as a side dish or topping for grilled meats, pasta, or on toast. They also work well in omelets or frittatas.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat, adding extra butter if needed.
Notes
- Experiment with different mushroom varieties for varied flavors and textures.
- Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper sautéing.
- Adjust garlic levels to your preference; roasted garlic can be used for a milder flavor.
- For an indulgent touch, sprinkle grated Parmesan or crumbled feta cheese before serving.
