Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (if using homemade caramel)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Gently fold in chocolate chips and chopped pecans with a spatula.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Stir until sugar dissolves, then boil without stirring until it turns deep amber (10-15 minutes).
- Carefully add 1/4 cup of heavy cream to the caramel. Stir until smooth and remove from heat. Let cool slightly.
- Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the pan cool for 10 minutes, then lift the bars out using the parchment paper and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
- Refrigerate for about 30 minutes to set the caramel.
- Cut into squares or rectangles, wiping the knife between cuts for clean edges.
- Serve at parties or enjoy at home with coffee or tea.
Notes
- For a quicker option, use store-bought caramel sauce.
- Ensure the bars are completely cooled before drizzling with caramel for the best presentation.
