Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (if using homemade caramel)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in chocolate chips and chopped pecans with a spatula.
  7. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Stir until sugar dissolves, then boil without stirring until it turns deep amber (10-15 minutes).
  8. Carefully add 1/4 cup of heavy cream to the caramel. Stir until smooth and remove from heat. Let cool slightly.
  9. Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
  10. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  12. Let the pan cool for 10 minutes, then lift the bars out using the parchment paper and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  13. Once cooled, drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
  14. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes to set the caramel.
  15. Cut into squares or rectangles, wiping the knife between cuts for clean edges.
  16. Serve at parties or enjoy at home with coffee or tea.

Notes

  • For a quicker option, use store-bought caramel sauce.
  • Ensure the bars are completely cooled before drizzling with caramel for the best presentation.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
