  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy a comforting creamy Asiago chicken dish with tender chicken breasts simmered in a rich sauce of heavy cream, Asiago cheese, and herbs. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for a cozy dinner and pairs well with various sides.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of grated Asiago cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1/2 cup of sun-dried tomatoes, chopped (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the chicken breasts. If they are thick, consider slicing them in half horizontally to create thinner cutlets. This will help them cook evenly and quickly.
  2. Season both sides of the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper to enhance the flavor.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the seasoned chicken breasts.
  4. Cook the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the butter. Allow it to melt, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan for added flavor.
  6. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  7. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer, cooking for about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Slowly add the heavy cream, stirring continuously to combine.
  9. Once incorporated, add the grated Asiago cheese and stir until melted and smooth. If too thick, add more chicken broth to reach desired consistency.
  10. Season with dried Italian herbs, and adjust salt and pepper to taste. If using, add sun-dried tomatoes and stir to combine.
  11. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, ensuring it is well coated with the sauce. Simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes to absorb flavors.
  12. Prepare any side dishes you plan to serve with the creamy Asiago chicken.
  13. Once heated through and bubbling, remove from heat and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley.
  14. Serve each chicken breast on a plate and spoon the creamy Asiago sauce over the top.
  15. Pair with garlic mashed potatoes, fettuccine alfredo, or a simple green salad.
  16. Garnish with additional parsley or a sprinkle of extra Asiago cheese if desired.
  17. Allow leftovers to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  18. To reheat, place chicken and sauce in a skillet over low heat, stirring occasionally until warmed through. Add a splash of chicken broth or cream if the sauce has thickened.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider marinating the chicken in Italian dressing for a few hours before cooking.
  • Feel free to customize the sauce with additional vegetables like spinach or mushrooms.
