  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 70 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These roasted sweet potatoes are tender and caramelized, making a delicious side dish. Customize with your favorite toppings and seasonings for a flavorful addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium-sized sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
  • Butter, for serving (optional)
  • Chopped fresh herbs (like parsley or cilantro, for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Rinse the sweet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Scrub with a vegetable brush if necessary.
  3. Pat the sweet potatoes dry with a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Using a fork, prick each sweet potato several times to allow steam to escape.
  5. Rub the sweet potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. For a sweeter version, add cinnamon and brown sugar.
  6. Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  7. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, until tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  8. Insert a fork or knife into the thickest part; if it goes in easily, they are done. If not, bake for another 10-15 minutes.
  9. Carefully remove the sweet potatoes from the oven using oven mitts.
  10. Allow to cool for a few minutes before handling.
  11. Slice each sweet potato lengthwise down the center, allowing steam to escape.
  12. Add butter, salt, honey, or chopped fresh herbs as desired.
  13. Serve warm as a side dish or main course, pairing well with proteins or salads.

Notes

  • For leftovers, cool completely before storing in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
  • Reheat in the microwave or oven at 350°F (175°C).
  • Experiment with different seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, or chili powder for variety.
  • For a different texture, mash the sweet potato flesh with butter and milk.
  • For crispy sweet potato fries, cut into wedges, toss with olive oil and spices, and bake.
