- 2 cans (21 oz each) apple pie filling
- 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, pour in the two cans of apple pie filling.
- Sprinkle the ground cinnamon over the apple filling and stir gently to combine.
- If using nuts, add the chopped pecans or walnuts to the apple mixture and fold in.
- In a separate bowl, pour in the box of yellow cake mix without preparing it according to package instructions.
- Stir the cake mix to break up any clumps.
- Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix, covering as much as possible.
- Using a fork or your fingers, gently mix the butter into the cake mix to create a crumbly texture.
- Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
- Pour the apple filling mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the crumbly cake mix evenly over the apple filling.
- If desired, sprinkle any leftover chopped nuts on top of the cake mix layer.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- For longer storage, freeze the dump cake wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
